Detailed Guide: MP & HM

The MP・HM screen lets you check transit movements as a line graph, using either the natal midpoints or natal planets as the reference. The “Harmonic (HM)” setting controls the scale interval of the graph, and “Display Content” controls what is shown as lines — the two are chosen independently.

Prerequisite: This screen has no fields for entering birth data. Please enter and save your birth data on the top page (input screen) first before opening this page. If no data is found, “Birth data not found” will be displayed. After choosing your settings, press the “Show Graph” button.

Overview of the MP・HM screen
Full screen: the settings panel is on the left, the graph and legend are on the right

1. The Relationship Between MP and HM

This screen is not divided into tabs; instead, one graph combines two settings.

Setting Role
Harmonic (HM) selection Determines how many degrees the graph’s vertical (Y) axis wraps at, i.e. the scale interval.
Display Content Chooses whether the graph shows a “Midpoint” band or “Natal Planet” horizontal lines.

These two settings are independent of each other and can be freely combined (for example, selecting HM4 while also showing midpoints).

2. Screen Layout

The settings panel is on the left, and the graph and legend are on the right. The legend panel shows the time zone, the legend for midpoints or natal planets, and the legend for transiting planets (date/time and degree).

3. Reference Date, Period, and Reference Point Position

Item Options Default
Reference date Date picker Today
Period 2 weeks / 2 months / 6 months / 1 year 2 months
Reference point position Past / Present / Future Present

“Reference point position” determines where the reference date is placed within the displayed period. Choosing “Past” places the reference date at the right edge (end) of the period, “Present” places it in the center, and “Future” places it at the left edge (start).

When the period is set to “6 months” or “1 year,” the transit targets are limited to the six planets from Mars to Pluto (the fast-moving Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus are excluded). For “2 weeks” or “2 months,” all 10 planets from the Sun to Pluto are included.

4. Choosing the Harmonic (HM)

Selecting one of HM1 to HM12 in “Harmonic Selection” switches the vertical axis range of the graph to “0°–(360÷HM number)°”.

Option Interval Corresponding aspect family
HM1 360° Overall
HM2 180° Opposition
HM3 120° Trine
HM4 90° Square
HM5 72°
HM6 60° Sextile
HM7 51.4°
HM8 45° Semisquare
HM9 40°
HM10 36°
HM11 32.7°
HM12 30° Sign

When HM1 is selected, zodiac sign glyphs are shown on the vertical axis (every 30 degrees). When HM12 is selected, zodiac sign glyphs are also shown at the moments when a planet crosses the 0-degree line; for other HM numbers, a “segment number” is shown instead. The graph always overlays the natal (reference) positions and the transiting (actual movement) positions for comparison. Markers of “R” and “D” appear at the moments a planet turns retrograde or direct.

Changes in the graph scale depending on the HM selection
Changing the HM number changes the vertical axis interval and the graph title

5. Display Content ①: Midpoint Display

Selecting “Midpoint” in “Display Content” shows the midpoint between two natal planets as a horizontal colored band on the graph. Rather than a circular dial, this is a horizontal band overlaid on the line graph.

Categories (6 Groups)

Midpoints are divided into six categories by meaning, switchable via tabs.

Category Example combinations
Life Sun/Moon (Integration of Masculine and Feminine), Sun/ASC (Self-Expression), Sun/MC (Social Mission), etc.
Love Venus/Mars (Sexuality), Venus/Jupiter (Happy Love), Moon/Venus (Tender Feelings), etc.
Success Sun/Jupiter (Success), Sun/Uranus (Originality), Jupiter/Uranus (Great Success), etc.
Difficulty Sun/Saturn (Trials), Mars/Saturn (Accidents), Sun/Pluto (Crisis), etc.
Mind Mercury/Saturn (Focused Thinking), Mercury/Pluto (Insight), Moon/Jupiter (Optimism), etc.
Society Mars/MC (Ambition), Jupiter/MC (Career Advancement), Saturn/MC (Responsibility), etc.

The target planets are combinations of the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, and ASC・MC; Chiron, the Nodes, asteroids, and Lilith are not included. Each item in each category’s list has a checkbox that lets you toggle it on or off.

Orb Width

The tolerance width of the midpoint band can be set to “±0.25°,” “±0.5°” (default), or “±1°.”

6. Display Content ②: Natal Planet Display

Selecting “Natal Planets” shows the natal positions of the 10 planets from the Sun to Pluto plus ASC・MC (12 items total) as horizontal lines. Each item has a checkbox that lets you toggle it on or off individually.

7. Interacting with the Graph

  • Tooltip: Hovering over the graph shows a crosshair dotted guide along with the date/time and degree at that position, plus nearby midpoint information.
  • Clicking the graph: Opens the Single Chart screen in a new tab (carrying over the currently selected HM number). This operation is also explained in the guidance banner at the top of the screen.

8. Useful Things to Know

  • Time zone: The time zone specified in the settings screen is reflected throughout the graph’s date axis and the legend panel display.
  • Difference in target planets by period: For longer periods (6 months / 1 year), the fast-moving Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Venus are excluded from the transit targets. If you want to see short-term detailed movements, choose “2 weeks” or “2 months.”
  • Nothing updates until you press “Show Graph”: Be sure to press the button after changing settings. However, the Harmonic selection alone will automatically redraw the graph immediately after selection, as long as a graph has already been shown.
  • Midpoints and natal planets cannot be shown at the same time: A radio button is used to select one or the other.
